Saint Louis University Hospital is a 320 bed hospital and Level 1 Trauma Center. It is located on the Missouri-Illinois border and is the 18th largest metropolitan area in the US and serves over 2 million people. The Department of Orthopaedic surgery has 7 full time orthopaedic traumatologists. The Department of Orthopaedic surgey is the busiest operative service in the hospital. Saint Louis University provides training to one trauma fellow annually and has four residents per year. There are over 2300 annual trauma admissions annually. In addition to the thriving clinical practice, there is an active research program. There is research support for basic science, biomechanical and clinical research. In addition, there is a full time PhD for epidemiological and statistical support. The core staff of Orthopaedic trauma surgeons is responsible for several publications.. The Orthopaedic Trauma Staff currently has research support from the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, Foundation for Orthopaedic Trauma, AO North America and Zimmer. The staff is actively involved in over 20 ongoing projects, including investigator initiated to prospective, multicenter studies. Saint Louis University is a member of the SEFC and OTR Consortium.
