Boston Medical Orthopaedic Trauma Center

Boston Medical Center (BMC)

Boston Medical Center is the busiest level I trauma center in the state of Massachusetts. It is located in the southern end of the city and receives referrals from Maine to Cape Cod. There are over 2,000 annual admissions to the trauma service. The orthopaedic trauma service is the busiest operative service in the hospital and its activities are coordinated by the 2.5 full time traumatologists. All care is dictated by protocol. Currently we have a research coordinator, a multicenter research coordinator and a research nurse involved with our prospective trials. We are the coordinating center for three active OTA multicenter grants, and 2 other multicenter studies submitted for funding. Our center has had a minimum of 3 papers on the program at the annual OTA meeting for the past 8 years. Our work has won the Bovill award for best paper at the meeting 4 times. Additionally, the Program Director was on the steering, adjudication, and writing committees of the largest orthopaedic trauma trial, the SPRINT study. Our main objectives are the highest quality patient care and the advancement of patient care through biologic and clinical investigation.
